The headphones remain ON all the time. Bob Abraham the founder of QED always hated the design of many mainstream amp which relied on the headphone socket completing and breaking the circuit to the speakers. This is why QED amps always had a choice of switched or direct speaker terminals on the back. This accessory enables you to use a quality silver plated switch to turn your speakers on or off when using the headphones.
